Ole Ole Bali, Soho KL

Some of you might not know, but Ole Ole Bali is a sister company of Bumbu Bali. Same goes to Waterlily. I visited Bumbu Bali a few years ago and Waterlily last year. Honestly speaking, I really love the place. The environment is good and the food is delicious.

My bf drove circling around Soho KL because we didn't know what to eat. When we got down from the car after a long search for a parking, the first place that caught our attention was Ole Ole Bali. There were tables outside but we opted to sit inside. The main reason being, mosquitoes like to kiss me and I really hate smoke out of cigarettes.

However, I cannot deny the fact that, the atmosphere outside did make me rethink my decision. With the windy weather and also classic picnic table. What more can I ask for right? Still, sitting inside wasn't that bad anyway. The interior decorations of the place was very nice. I didn't take any pictures on that because it was hard to get quality pictures because it was dim inside. We chose to sit on the cushion (like Japanese style) rather than sitting on a chair. Don't ask me why but I think we were just following our heart based on what we were feeling back then.

The bf and I weren't hungry so we only ordered one food and one drink. Besides, based on my experience, the food portion is sufficient to be shared by two person. So, it would be just nice to fill our not so hungry stomach. Anyway, I super duper love their Barli Lime. After tasting their Barli Lime from Bumbu Bali, I stopped ordering Barli Lime when I dine elsewhere. If you compare, their Barli Lime is so concentrated. Again, don't ask me why other places are being cheapskate on providing a tasty Barli Lime. As far as I'm concern, Barli is not expensive. It's only RM0.60 for a packet and you can boil a big pot of Barli water out of it.

Paddington House of Pancakes, 1 Utama & The Curve

Got this off from another deal site a few months ago. Still remember I was hesitating whether to buy the deal when I saw it. Ever since all these deal sites existed, it has became hard for people to resist on spending money. The main reason being, it's a good buy for customers because they pay less for products and services. But for businesses, I'm actually doubting if it's worth it. I'll write up another blog post to discuss about this. So stay tune for it ya!

Now, back to the food. Pancake has always been one of my favourite food. Surprisingly, with just maple syrup and butter to accompany the pancake, it taste marvellous. You know, you can buy the ready made pancakes flour off the shelf and just DIY at home. Very simple, you just have to add milk and eggs and mix it all together. Then Hoola! You can start heating up your pancake mix.

Despite me telling you that pancakes are actually very easy to make, I'm too lazy to do it myself. Part of the problem is, no one in the house actually love pancakes as much as I do. So, it would be easier for me get out to buy pancakes. Luckily, McDonald came to my rescue when they introduced Pancakes into their Breakfast Menu. I swear I was jumping up and down when I got the news.

McDonald's pancakes can satisfy my craving for pancakes but if you are saying about delicious and unique pancakes, it's undeniable that Paddington House of Pancakes offers one of the best pancakes you can desire. At least in Malaysia of course because they are the only place that focuses on pancakes.

I didn't know there are so many kinds of pancakes and so many different kinds of dishes you can make out of pancakes. Recalling back, I was quite curious when I had my first Pancake burger. I didn't know what to expect because all the while, my perception of pancake is sweetness. But burger is a different story because as we all know, they are salty.

I love both of the flavours. But if I were to make a comment, I would say the service in 1 Utama is better than The Curve. The waiter in The Curve didn't even bother to entertain me when I told him I was there for the deal. Not a good way to treat your customer because it's not like I did not pay for anything. In actual fact, I did paid for the deal.

To add on, I think a lot of people do not know that 1 Utama has Paddington House of Pancakes. I only got to know when I was required to select where I want to redeem my deal. The location of the place is not strategic but if you want a quiet place just to chill, I think it's better to go there.

Oh, did I mentioned that I was so blur that I selected two different places to redeem my deal? Yeah, that's why you see two different names -___-

The Smokehouse Restaurant, Bangsar

Oh yes, I definitely remember how excited I was when I saw one of the deal site offering this deal. I got to be honest with all of you, I find English Afternoon Tea quite fascinating.

I like it when they present the food on a tier tea cake stand. It kind of give me a perception that the food served are nice. Not to forget, the elegant feeling that will somehow creep in you when you tell others, "Oh, come join us! We're just having English Afternoon Tea now." Ahaha. Just kidding!

However, I got to tell you, my trip down to the place with the bf was quite a big disappointment. Allow me to slowly explain why I didn't like it at all through some of the pictures. But first and foremost, I got to tell you, I was quite frustrated by the fact that I waited for as long as 30 minutes for my English Afternoon Tea (food) to be served. Recalling back, the customers at the table on my left was complaining too.

As far as I understand, it won't take that long to prepare it. I assume the Orange Cakes, Brownies, Scones and Apple Pies are all ready beforehand. Okay, let's just assume they prepare the sandwich on the spot when the customers arrive. How long will it take right? I can accept if they claim that they are heating up the food. But at least have some courtesy to acknowledge us right? Plus, when the food came, only the Apple Pies were hot. It was such a turn off!

At least the coffee wasn't that bad. It was bitter just nice to our liking. But throughout the day, I went to the toilet for countless time. I don't usually have this reaction when I drink coffee but the only coffee that I know will give me such reaction is Nescafe. So, I'm just curious if the coffee is actually Nescafe. Afterall, the tea choice offered in the English Afternoon Tea Set was just Boh Tea (The customers at the table on my right had tea). Pfft!

This was another turn off for me and the bf. WHERE THE HELL IS MY 2 TIERS?! The bf asked the waiter and you know what he said? "Oh, we don't have enough." I'm already rolling my eyes. Because the customers at the table on my right finished their food like ages ago and they were only talking and surfing the net on their laptop. The waiter didn't even bother to clean their table. I was quite pissed off with the food presentation. Like seriously. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!

The bf tried to cheer me up. He poured a lot of milk in the coffee and was attempting to make a love shape out of it. Fail -___- Still, can't deny the fact that it do look like a love shape. Just that it wasn't perfect. Ahaha.

Oh well, will I go back to The Smokehouse Restaurant, Bangsar? NEVER! There's seriously nothing to shout about.

I will follow you, follow you wherever you may go

Sounds familiar? You are right! It was such a huge hype few years ago. Back then, we were unaware that another telco player (DiGi) has already entered the industry. Until one day, the Yellow Coverage Fellow (YCF) a.k.a. Yellow Man TVC was all over the place.

I'm not here to talk about how effective the brand campaign was but I'm here to talk about the person behind the Yellow Coverage Fellow (YCF) a.k.a. Yellow Man. Who would have take the time to actually google up and read up on the creator. Often, we always neglect the fact that there are people who are contributing a lot of their time and effort to make something successful. All these, being behind the scene of course.

So, I was reading an article titled "Tapping the true power of ads" shared by a colleague yesterday. As I continue reading the article, I came to realize that "Hey! So this was the man that created the famous DiGi Yellow Man." Pardon me if I sounded stupid (if you already knew who the creator was years ago). Obviously, I didn't know nuts about it because I was still...erm...not too involved in the advertising industry.

His name is Alvin Teoh and he is now the executive creative director (ECD) for Naga DDB Sdn Bhd. What really inspired me to write this post is because of what he said during an interview with StarBizWeek.

"At the end of the day, you want people to love or hate you for what you are, not for what they think you are." I can't help but to find myself nodding, agreeing to the above statement. I guess everyone agree on this. Who actually want people to judge them. Right? Sometimes, we find that people accuse us for what we did not do or do not mean at all. This might be a result of prejudgement. Why? Because if people perceive you in a certain way, it's hard for them to see things clearly.

Let me just ask you a question. Do you think smokers or people with tattoo are bad people? If your answer is no, then congratulation. You are not judging. But if your answer is yes (believe me, some people still think that way), then you better continue reading.

You see, I have friends that smoke and I have friends that have tattoo on them. However, they are good people. We can't just set our mindset that these people are bad. They might be a good father, a great friend, an animal lover or so on which it is hard to tell if we do not know them well. Some of us might not agree to smoking and having tattoo, but that doesn't give us the right to say that they are bad people. It just simply means that we have different point of view to a certain things. We just have to accept the choices they have make and respect who they really are. After all, isn't that what we always want others to think about us?

Another thing that I want to highlight is when Alvin Teoh talked about promotion. "Without realizing it, you kind of play the role of a senior person even before you get promoted. Some people say, I promote you; therefore you play this role. I think it's the other way around. You're already playing that role, and that promotion is an official recognition of the role which you already play."

Once again, got to put my hands up and say I agree to the above statement. People always think that "Oh! You're now the Account Director. You should manage your people. You should bring in new businesses. You should take care of your clients..." This is what people expect out of you when you are holding a certain role. However, we often fail to see it the other way. Maybe all this while, you are already doing what is required by the role. And the reason you got promoted was because you did it well enough and your company decided to recognize the effort that you have put in. Not to forget, how all these will influence the company.

That is why, if you have already decided where you want to be, start working on how you need to walk to reach that point. It's crucial because one wrong step might take you to somewhere else. But fret not, if you ever took a wrong step, there are always a turning point. Or, you'll just have to see what route can u take from the wrong step. Most importantly, believe in yourself!

That's all for the long thoughts. Hope you enjoy seeing some of the DiGi YCF's ads that I personally favour.
